SlimPasta: a pasta alternative for weight loss
by Julie White
For those of you who have been on the Weigh It Up program, you would know by now that pasta is a very occasional food due to its high carbohydrate content.
Well, all that’s changed.
We’re proud to partner with SlimPasta, a pasta alternative that is virtually carb and calorie free. I know that sounds impossible, but it’s true!
It’s made from the corm of the Asian Konjac (pronounced kohn-yak) plant and has been used by the Japanese to make Shirataki noodles for years. It’s predominantly made of glucomannan, a polysaccharide, which is high in soluble fibre and gives you a feeling of fullness as it expands in your stomach. It’s been proven to help lower cholesterol, blood sugar levels and assist in weight loss.
Not only does it have negligible calories and carbs, approximately 18 calories and 2.1g of carbohydrates per 125g serve; it makes you feel full. Who would have ever believed it!
Just remember it will have a different taste and texture to the normal pasta made from high gluten wheat but once you add your sauce or dressing you’ll hardly tell the difference.
It means you can finally eat your favourite pasta and noodle dishes and not gain weight!
The Angel Hair pasta, which is more like rice noodles, is gluten free. Use it as you would noodles, in stir fries, salads and soups. Serve the thicker spaghetti as we do in our pasta recipes with plenty of vegetable-containing sauce. Try it with some of our recipes or substitute it for pasta in your favourite low fat recipes.
An added bonus is you don’t need to cook it: just rinse, heat and serve. Talk about fast food!
Put Slim Pasta’s Spaghetti & Angel Hair Pasta on your shopping list and you won’t feel deprived of pasta again whilst you’re losing weight on the Weigh It Up program.
